Guidelines for Building-up of the Slavonic Library Collection
The Slavonic Library’s acquisition policy is guided by the Thematic Acquisition Plan.
The acquisition concentrates on the following subjects:
-
history and historical sciences
-
ethnography and folklore of the Slavonic nations
-
economics and economic sciences (only basic works on political economy and economic history of the individual Slavonic countries)
-
politics and social life
-
science and culture (from the natural and applied sciences only the works of the most famous Slavonic scientists)
-
religion (history of religion, pre-Christian and Christian religious movements, non-Christian religions if confessed by Slavs, spirituality of the European east)
-
philosophy, pedagogy, psychology (only works of encyclopaedic nature, basic handbooks and works of Slavonic scientists)
-
philological sciences
-
art and art sciences (theory and history of art) – only basic and reference works, art of Slavonic nations, art of non-Slavonic nations if its collections are on the territory of a Slavic state
-
other subjects (only basic works which provide general perspective on the development and state of the art of individual academic and practical subjects in Slavonic countries; from the disciplines of law, statistics, military studies, anthropology, sociology, demography, urbanization, industrialization, only works that have historical or philological importance for the study of Slavonic nations; from geography, only works relevant to the study of Slavonic nations)
Literature from these subjects represent the overwhelming majority of acquisitions, which corresponds with the specialization of the library.
As far as Bohemistic literature is concerned (with the exception of philology), the library applies far more restrictive criteria than is the case with other Slavonic nations, including Slovakia, to avoid undesirable duplication with the other libraries.
