The Nativity Scenes in the Klementinum
November 23, 2016 – January 8, 2017

Opening ceremony - Photogallery

The traditional exhibition, organised in association with the Museum of Nativity Scenes in Karlštejn, features nativity scenes from the Baroque period up to the end of World war II. Displayed are wooden nativity scenes from most major regions of our country, as well as painted nativity scenes made of paper, and the unique historical ones made of sugar, wax, clay, plaster, duroline or period platic.  Visitors can join the Playful Workshops and create there figures of marzipan by designs or their own fantasy.

Admission: adults CZK 50 / children, students and senior citizens CZK 30 / free: children up to 5 years, ZTP card holders and teachers accompanying a school group


 

Josef Stepling – The Enlightened Jesuit
November 7, 2016 - January 14, 2017

The exhibition is organised on the occasion of the international conference „ The Klementinum and Jesuit Science“, held in the Klementinum on 9–10 November. It is dedicated to the life and work of the 18th century Czech pre-eminent personality of mathematics, physics and astronomy Joseph Stepling (1716–1778). The visitors will learn about his youth, early years of study, and following scientific activity and research. Special attention is given to the establishment of the Mathematical Museum and the Observatory as well as to the history of meteorological measurements and their recording in the Klementinum. The display also features original printed documents from the NL collections and copies of several autographs.

Bulgarian Collections and Bulgarian Research at the Slavonic Library
November 9, 2016 – January 14, 2017

Photogallery

The display commemorates the 100th anniversary of Bulgarian studies at the Philosophical Faculty, Charles University, Prague. It features the oldest titles of books, periodicals and works by Czech specialists in Bulgarian studies, as well as Czech translations of Bulgarian belles-lettres of the new milénium, showing thus the range and the quality of the Slavonic Library´s Bulgarian collections. Admission  CZK 10 (free for the NL registered readers).

Famous Buildings by František Maxmilián Kaňka
October 5 – December 10, 2016

Opening ceremony - Photogallery

A panel exhibition on the occasion of the 250th death anniversary of the first native Czech Baroque architect is held by Kotěrovo centrum architektury o.p.s in association with the FOIBOS BOOKS publishing house.
The panels show a representative set of twenty five buildings selected from the extensive work of architect F. M. Kaňka, who is considered the most productive and most popular with Czech aristocracy. He became the most outstanding personality of Czech Baroque architecture next to Santini and the Dientzenhofers.
