Activities of the Department
The Manuscripts and Early Printed Books Department includes all kinds of library and professional activities related to cataloguing and providing access to its historical holdings (up to 1800).
The Department is building retrospectively the historical holdings. It complements with purchases and donations in particular the collection of Bohemical material of Czech as well as foreign provenience. The historical holdings are being catalogued in compliance with the international standards (MARC, MASTER, TEI) and the following catalogues provide access to them (see the Catalogues link at the right side of the page). The Department is charged to co-ordinate the KNIHOPIS - Czech National Retrospective Bibliography. Within its scope, it participates in the professional publishing and exhibition activities of the National Library. It is engaged in research and development of Book Culture and cultural heritage. It issues certificates for the export of objects of cultural value in the field of book culture.
